Sometimes I forget…
… how much I love Stereophonics. I actually saw them live back in 2003, if memory serves. I remember first hearing Mr. Writer on MTV2… when it was still good. I don’t really understand, how at 17, this song struck such a strong chord with me, but it did and still does. I love the music video as well, it’s a good fit.
Kelly Jones is hot. He’s only about 5’5” and smokes a billion cigs a day, but he has one hell of a voice. Reminds me of Rod Stewart… speaking of which:
While Mr. Stewart didn’t write that song, nor did he originally sing it, he made it famous and I think Kelly did a pretty excellent job on it.
Another thing I love about Stereophonics is the way they cover Beatles’ songs. They don’t go crazy and try to make it better or worse or anything really. They maintain the quality of the original song and keep it simple in their own style. A perfect example of this is “Don’t Let Me Down.” I actually heard them play it at their live show and it’s on the ‘I Am Sam’ soundtrack. To this day, it is my favorite Beatles’ cover.
Also check out their version of “I’m Only Sleeping” performed with Oasis.
The last song I’m posting is one of my favorites. It’s sweet, simple and the story Kelly told about how he came up with it was very touching.
*sigh*
